As part of the government procedure on removing families, decided in December 2010, Cedars Pre-departure Accommodation was opened at Pease Pottage, south of Crawley, in August 2011. It can accommodate up to nine families at a time in self-contained apartments. The families can be held for up to 72 hours before departure from the UK. It has the capacity to hold 426 men, divided in to four separate wings.
